What I was REALLY doing this weekend

This is what I was REALLY doing this weekend! Saturday's post was part of an elaborate ruse. (The binding really is sewn down on one side of the bento box quilt, though.) With the Jim's encouragement and the help of Alexis, Anna's best friend and maid of honor (and the bride of the wedding bento box) and Matt's mom, I flew to Boston on Saturday morning and surprised Anna at her bridal shower. We had a wonderful time at the shower and then we were together for most of Sunday.

Here are my two beautiful brides. Alexis' big day is next Saturday, so I have to get busy and sew the binding down on that quilt because we are flying back to Boston on Friday.

The wedding bento box returns: What I'm doing this weekend

Kelly at Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shop called yesterday afternoon to say that the wedding bento box quilt was finished. I dashed to pick it up and put the bias binding on last night. Now I have a weekend of hand sewing in my future. The machine quilting pattern is the trillium leaf and I just love it. Kelly did a wonderful job as always.

Happy Birthday, Dan

Our son Dan celebrates his birthday today. I send him lots of love and wishes for many happy returns of the day. This picture was taken the month his sister was born and is one of my favorites. What a gift I was given 31 years ago today.

Anna and Matt's wedding quilt: Halfway there

This weekend has been about sewing not blogging. I just finished piecing the first half and wanted to share. It's absolutely gorgeous outside, too, so I've been working in the yard a few hours each day. Once I get it pieced, I'll quilt it on the porch over the big table as I did with Dan's t-shirt quilt. It's a great warm weather solution.

Anna and Matt's wedding quilt: First quarter pieced

Here's the first quarter of Anna and Matt's wedding quilt pieced. As I posted originally, this is a pattern by Denyse Schmidt called "Single Girl." Other posts can be found here, here, here, and here. I love the visual rhythm created by the scale of the Japanese and Japanese-inspired fabric designs.

Baby quilt tag: A new kind of labeling for me

The pink baby bento is finished but I thought you might like to see the label. The rubber stamp didn't survive the washing machine probably because I forgot to heat set it! (Dummy!) Working on wedding sewing today. Hope your weekend is happy and relaxing or productive.

Pink Baby Bento Box

Happy Easter to you. This last week was my spring break. Anna, Matt, and Matt's mom were here early in the week to finalize wedding plans. The weather has been glorious, so I've taken a short break from working in the studio to spend time on the screened porch. Hand quilting on the pink bento box baby quilt is nearly finished. Today is just as beautiful, so I'm on my way to the porch to celebrate this fabulous spring weather.
